Business verification is not needed to start on the WhatsApp Business API, but it is the quickest way past the 250-customer daily limit. Verifying your Meta business portfolio lifts the messaging limit to 2,000, the phone number cap from 2 to 20 and, with an approved display name, the template cap from 250 to 6,000. It is also required for the blue tick (Official Business Account).

What verification changes

Unverified portfolioVerified portfolio
Messaging limit (unique customers outside the 24-hour window, per rolling 24 hours)2502,000, then automatic scaling to 10,000, 100,000 and unlimited
Registered business phone numbers220
Message templates per WhatsApp account2506,000, once a number has an approved display name
Official Business Account (blue tick)Not eligibleEligible after 30 days on the platform

Verification is one of three ways to reach the 2,000 limit. The others are having your solution partner verify the business, or sending 2,000 delivered template messages to unique customers within 30 days with high-quality templates. For a store that wants to message its customer list before a sale, verification is usually the fastest. See WhatsApp messaging limits for how the tiers work.

How to verify your business

  1. Fill in the business portfolio exactly as registeredIn Meta Business Suite, open Settings, then Business info. The legal name, address and phone number must match your official registration document character for character, including “LLC” or “Co.”.
  2. Make your website match the businessThe site must load over HTTPS and show the business name or logo. Use an email address on the same domain as the website; a Gmail address next to a company domain is a common reason for failure.
  3. Start verification in the Security CentreMeta first tries to match your details against public records. If it cannot, it asks for documents.
  4. Upload clear, official documentsA business licence, certificate of incorporation or similar official record that shows the legal name and address. In the Gulf this is usually your commercial registration or trade licence. Documents must be current, legible and carry an official seal or signature where self-filed.
  5. Confirm by phone, email or domainMeta sends a code to the business phone or email, or asks you to verify the domain with a meta tag or DNS record. Pick the one you can actually receive.
  6. Wait for the decision, then check your display nameOnce the portfolio is verified, your numbers’ display names go through review. A name must clearly relate to the business and match its branding.

Why verification gets rejected

  • The legal name in the portfolio differs from the document, even slightly.
  • The document shows the name but not the address, or the phone number is on a document without the business name.
  • Self-filed forms without an official seal or signature.
  • Expired, cropped or blurry scans.
  • A website that does not load, is not HTTPS or does not mention the business.
  • Requested information not supplied in time, which restarts the process.

Display names and the blue tick

Your display name is the name customers see. It should be your business or brand name, not a person’s name or a generic word. You can change it up to 10 times in 30 days; after a change is approved, re-register the number within 14 days or the change has to be reviewed again.

The blue tick, an Official Business Account, needs a verified portfolio, at least 30 days on the platform, two-step verification on the number and an approved display name. If a request is denied, you can apply again after 30 days. Without it, your number does not appear when customers search WhatsApp, unless they have saved it.
