A wa.me link opens WhatsApp straight into a chat with your number, on phone or desktop, without the customer saving you as a contact. Add text and it arrives in their message box ready to send, so the first message tells you where they came from.
The number must be in full international format with digits only: no plus sign, no 00, no spaces, and no leading 0 after the country code. An Egyptian number 010 0123 4567 becomes 201001234567. The generator does that for you.
Use a different pre-filled message for each place you put the link, such as "Hi, I saw this on Instagram" or "Hi, I scanned the box", and you can tell which channel started the chat.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API to use a wa.me link?
No. wa.me links work with any WhatsApp number: personal, the WhatsApp Business app or the API. The customer starts the chat, so it costs nothing to receive.
Can the pre-filled message be in Arabic?
Yes. The text is URL-encoded, so Arabic, emoji and line breaks all come through as typed.
Why does my link open a chat with the wrong number?
Usually because the number kept its leading 0 or lost its country code. wa.me needs the full international number as digits only, such as 966501234567 for a Saudi number written locally as 050 123 4567.
Will the QR code stop working?
No. The QR code holds the wa.me link itself, not a redirect, so it keeps working as long as the number is on WhatsApp. If you want to change where it points later, or count scans, use a tracked link instead.
