What it is

  • An order confirmation flow is an automated message sent the moment someone places an order, asking them to confirm it.
  • It goes out on WhatsApp, with Confirm, Edit and Cancel as buttons the customer taps rather than types.
  • Where cash on delivery is common, the confirmation doubles as a fraud filter before anything is packed.
  • It runs the same way for an online order and for a sale at a counter.

Who runs it

  • Every brand taking orders should run it. It is one of the first two flows to switch on.
  • Eleven brands on Nonito run it today, across online stores and physical counters.
  • It is worth most where cash on delivery is a third of orders or more, which is most of MENA.
  • Restaurants and retailers use the in-store version to build a guest list they own.

How it works

  • Your store or POS records the order and the flow picks it up.
  • It waits an hour, so your warehouse sees the order before the customer can cancel it.
  • A WhatsApp message lists the order and offers three buttons: confirm, edit, or cancel.
  • Whatever they tap is written back to the order, so fulfilment knows what to do without asking anyone.
  • Silence is not treated as a cancellation. The order proceeds unless the customer says otherwise.

Why it works

  • A confirmation is the one message almost everyone opens, so you are not competing for attention.
  • A fake order caught before dispatch costs nothing. The same order caught after costs picking, packing and a round trip.
  • An edit request is a saved sale. Without a way to ask, the customer cancels instead.
  • In store it converts roughly twice as well as online, because the customer just handed you money and remembers you.

The Most Opened Message You Will Ever Send.

Almost everyone opens a confirmation. That attention is free, and it is the one message you never have to earn. Asking the buyer to confirm turns a receipt into a conversation, and where cash on delivery is a large share of orders it also separates real orders from bad addresses before you have paid to pick, pack and deliver.

The moment

A customer places an order

On your site, or at the counter. Either way the order lands in the system.

1 of 5

The same flow covers two situations. Most brands need both.

Online orders

Confirms the order and filters cash-on-delivery fraud before anything is packed.

Counter sales

Sends the receipt to WhatsApp, which turns an anonymous walk-in into a customer you can reach again.

What You Give, What You Get

What you give already exists in your store. What you get comes back automatically.

What you give

  • Order number
  • Order contents

  • First nameoptional
  • Branchoptional

What you get

  • A confirmed or cancelled order
  • Cancellations before dispatch
  • Edit requests
  • A contactable customer
  • Revenue attributed to the flow

What Makes It Work, And What Breaks It

The difference between recovering orders and annoying people is in these details.

Do this

  • Give them buttons, not a reply to type

This flow uses three: Confirm, Edit order, Cancel. Keep it to three, and make each one an outcome you can act on automatically. Tapping is one second; writing a sentence is a decision most people postpone.

  • Never treat silence as a cancellation

Plenty of real customers do not answer. Ship unless they say otherwise, or you will cancel good orders.

  • Split cash on delivery from prepaid

Someone who already paid does not need to confirm. Asking them reads as doubt about their own order.

  • Put the total in the message

Most refusals at the door are a surprise about the price. Say it while they can still change their mind cheaply.

  • In store, lead with the receipt

The receipt is why someone gives you a number at the till. A signup is not.

What goes wrong

  • Cancelling on no reply

The most expensive mistake this flow can make. You will cancel real orders from people who were simply busy.

  • Sending it before fulfilment sees the order

A cancellation that arrives after the pick has started costs you the pick anyway.

  • Asking prepaid customers to confirm

They have paid. Asking again creates doubt where there was none, and generates support tickets.

  • No route to a person

Edit requests are saved sales, but only if someone answers them. An unmonitored inbox turns a save into a cancellation.

  • Collecting numbers at the till with no reason

Staff will stop asking within a week, and the in-store version quietly dies.

Questions About This Flow

What happens if nobody replies?

The order ships. Silence is not a cancellation, and treating it as one is how brands cancel good orders.

Does this replace the Shopify confirmation email?

No, it sits alongside it. The email is the receipt. This is the one people actually open, and the only one that can ask a question and get an answer.

Will asking for confirmation increase cancellations?

You will see cancellations earlier, not more of them. The orders that cancel here are the ones that would have been refused at the door, after you had paid to ship them.

Does it work for a shop as well as a website?

Yes, and in store it converts roughly twice as well. Across two brands running the in-store version, per-brand conversion has been 8.7% to 11.2%.

How long does it take to go live?

It goes live the day your template is approved. Allow two to three days in total, including submitting it.

What results should we expect?

Across 11 brands, per-brand conversion has ranged from 2.9% to 11.2%, with in-store at the top of that range. Where you land depends on your payment mix and how fast you reply to edits.
